I love how the cards have such snappy names .... Louisiana Purchase, Lone Star and Oregon Trail.... Wouldn’t want those who use them to feel bad.

Yes you do.  You would like them to eat just enough gruel that they don’t starve too fast.  It’s funny how the “libertarians” suddenly want to control every facet of peoples’ lives when they are open about not liking them.

You really think that all the people on food stamps would starve if they could not get a starbucks coffee paid for by the government?

I say let them have the appropriate budget, and the responsibility to use it.  Nutrition education is not very good, and furthermore there are people receiving government support who are ill, mentally ill, and not otherwise able to take care of themselves.  If they are in a specific medical program, that will have separate guidelines for assuring nutrition.  No, I do not want to deny people the occasional dessert, as I do not have a strange rightwing authoritarian desire to control every tiniest aspect of their lives.

Hey, pizza’s a vegetable now.  Coffee’s a bean.

It ain’t all the poor people’s fault.  There’s corporate culpability in the matter too.

You trivialize this as if it is something that occasionally happens. Can you not see these fast food lobbyist have gotten government to pay for their products?

Food stamps should be a subsistence only program. It traps people just like all welfare does and keeps them down on the “farm”. Sure we should care for the mentally ill and elderly and minors without guardians but we should not feed grown men and women capable of work at any level above subsistence and only then for a short period of time.

I, unlike you, believe these people can feed themselves. Of course if the welfare is there they will no doubt take it.

Another reason it should be stopped.

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as “bad luck.” - Robert Heinlein

Sure, why not?  You’ve got plenty to eat.

More than a little.

Did I mention the inherent corruption in big government????

Chicken or the egg time.  One’s corrupt because the other is...yada, yada, yada.  I’m not against reform, but I don’t think we need to go to soup lines either.
