Any thoughts on the BESE race between Songy and Roemer?

I’ve never been a big fan of any of the Roemers and Chaz seems to have a conflict of interest with his sister running a Charter School company.  Donald Songy is a former school board superintendent but he’s also a Dem.

If Roemer wins Jindal will have absolute control over BESE. I’m not sure this is a good idea.

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

From what I’ve read, the LAE supports Songy. That made my mind up for me.

I’m somewhat undecided about it. Roemer also got about $100K in backing from Mayor Bloomberg via Jindal. I despise Mike Bloomberg.

I didn’t know that.  I don’t like Roemer, but this is a deal killer.

This.  I’d be voting for Songy over uber-nerd Roemer in any case but this ought to give the rest of you pause.

I’ve thought some more about this, and while the LAE appears to see the primary purpose of education to be a vehicle to employ its members that doesn’t necessarily make their support of Songy a deal killer.

What level of support are we talking about?  Are they simply endorsing him over Roemer, or are they out actively campaigning for him?  FWIW, these are questions, not back-handed talking points.

Roux, I’m pretty sure it’s NOT a good idea....  What’s next, the gold standard of education?

Uber-nerd?

This should clarify the matter.

They aren’t even in the same category..... The LAE is pretty much a joke in Louisiana. Bloomberg is as close to a dictator as you can get, using his power to control every facet of our lives. He’s a worthless POS.

Maybe you think you’d have a better chance of getting the much older (and liberal) Songy in the sack with you?

I’ve got more than I can handle sleeping next to me every night for the last 35 years.  You should be so lucky, dipshit.

Roemer is absolutely committed to school choice and I support him. Jindal should do more to accomplish school choice state wide.

No. Jindal is putting money into Chris Broadwater’s campaign for state representative and he was endorsed by the teacher’s union, the AFL-CIO, the former president of the Louisiana Trial Lawyers association and Bobby Jindal. He claims to be a republican and his experience is “worked in the Jindal administration”. How does all of that work Big Jim?

The teacher that lives across from me is a big Songy fan too. She thinks that Songy placed in office would help the LAE greatly.
Is Bloomberg a mayor somewhere within BESE District 6?

No, he’s the mayor of NYC. Which is why it’s strange he would care about BESE District 6.
