A Canadian judge is now considering a landmark challenge to his country’s ban on polygamy as unconstitutional — a case being closely watched in Utah.
Testimony ended last week in the proceeding, sparked by the Canadian branch of a polygamous sect based in Utah. Since late November, British Columbia Chief Justice Robert Bauman has heard from nearly 20 witnesses — some of them Utahns — and taken many more affidavits and video testimonies about plural marriage.
The justice is expected to issue a ruling later this year on whether an anti-polygamy law dating to 1892 violates Canada’s guarantee of freedom of religion. The Utah Attorney General’s Office will be watching that ruling, said spokesman Paul Murphy.
“I think it will inform us,” he said. “Canada is tackling the same issues we have, in that we have this law but for the most part it hasn’t been enforced by any law enforcement agency.”

Right on cue, the polygamists take their cue from the same sex movement.. What will be next?  What troll said would not happen, is happening.

Assuming all are consenting adults, what’s wrong with polygamy?

The slippery slope rears its’ ugly head.

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

Just because they want to do something does not mean that society has to condone it.

Why shouldn’t society condone what consenting adults want to do?

Now having failed at humor, do you want to try to answer the question?

From a genetic standpoint it’s bad, it reduces the gene pool.  But it’s like atheism, no argument you can make will change anyone’s mind on it.

What?  Reduces the gene pool?  You’re saying that is a reason for government to prohibit consenting adults from marriage??

You folks who want to keep polygamy unlawful better come up with better reasons than what you’ve done so far.

No, I’m saying that’s why the government should prohibit polygamy.. No one said anything about prohibiting marriage.  When someone next steps up and wants to legalize beastility, in cases where the “beast” is willing, will you defend that too?

Does bestiality involve consenting adults? No? Then no, I will not be supporting it.

Polygamy, however, does involve consenting adults.

Why would anyone who wants a small and limited government, and anyone who respects individual liberty and freedom, want the government to interfere with consenting adults who wish to marry?

Well, you’re free to support it troll..  Society sees differently though.  It realizes the inherent problems polygamy creates.  Hell, watch a few episodes of “Big Love”.. It’s more damm trouble than it’s worth..  One is enough trouble.
