Louie, first of all, I’m quite surprised anyone is a student of my postings, but thank you for your comment.  Please understand that while most of what I write is what I do believe, not all of what I write is.  Sometimes I’ll post things just to explore an idea, and certainly regarding religion I do not claim to have all the answers, it is very much an ongoing process for me.

To answer your question, I consider myself a Christian.  I’ve never thought of myself as a Muslim or any other faith, except Christian.  That said, I question Christianity all the time, there are many aspects to it that don’t make sense to me.  I do not believe in a literal interpretation of the Bible.  I believe that the Bible was written by men who in good faith tried to answer some of the basic questions of mankind, such as who are we, why are we here, who is God, and what is His nature.  The Bible isn’t man’s only attempt to answer such questions, every culture and society has made such an effort, the Koran being one such example.

I’m certainly not offended by your questions, and in fact I welcome questions.  And again, I do not profess to have THE answer, but merely my answer at this time.  My thoughts on religion have evolved over the years, and very well may change again, should there be reason to do so.

Thank you again, and please don’t be shy about asking questions or making comments.  If I’m wrong, I want to know it, on religion or any other topic.  Hope you have a nice day.

You’ve criticized Islam because it hasn’t done enough to distance itself from its extremist members.

Shouldn’t “normal” Tea Partiers distance themselves from stuff like this?  Or do you find humor in the murder of gays?

We do, Troll. At BRTP we would run off bigots and the loony conspiracy-theory crowd when we found them.  Can’t speak for other Tea Parties, though.  Political movements always bring out the radicals and the nutters - left or right, they will be with us always.

Since they mention Mathew Sheppard maybe you should read the real story…

They didn’t pick him because he was gay only because he was well dressed and they thought he had a lot of money. They were drug addicts looking for a score....

McKinney told Vargas he set out the night of Oct. 6, 1998, to rob a drug dealer of $10,000 worth of methamphetamine. But after several attempts, McKinney was not able to carry out his plan.

Henderson said he thought if he could keep McKinney drinking, he’d forget the robbery plan.

But according to McKinney, when he encountered Shepard at the Fireside Lounge, he saw an easy mark.

McKinney told “20/20” Shepard was well-dressed and assumed he had a lot of cash.

Shepard was sitting at the bar, McKinney recalls. “He said he was too drunk to go home. And then he asked me if I’d give him a ride. So I thought, yeah, sure, what the hell,” according to McKinney.

All three got in the front seat of McKinney’s pickup, and Henderson took the wheel. McKinney told police that at some point Shepard reached over and grabbed his leg. In response, McKinney said, he hit him with his pistol. “I was getting ready to pull it on him anyway,” he said.

McKinney says he asked for, and got, Shepard’s wallet, which had only $30 in it. But even though Shepard handed over his money, McKinney continued beating him.

When pressed by Vargas as to why he continued beating Shepard after he had already taken his wallet, McKinney said, “Sometimes when you have that kind of rage going through you, there’s no stopping it. I’ve attacked my best friends coming off of meth binges.”

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

That’s good, clifford, thanks for letting me know.  And it is also nice that Montana dumped the President of its Tea Party for joking about the murder of Matthew Shepard.

Sorry BE, I hate to burst your bubble. What these guys did was horrible but it wasn’t because Sheppard was gay.
