But I just did.  It’s called “pointing out hypocrisy”..  You constantly defend obama, bash bush, and run republicans in the ground in general..

Yet claim you don’t.  Do you also try to pass off chit as “shinola”?

Now you say you disagree, that’s a different issue.

Babbling, as in spewing nonsense without any basis in fact.

I can’t say for certian, but I think Downer’s folks are reading deeper into the tea leaves (!).  First, the primary turnout was small.  It was mostly the activist crowd who voted, which is likely a good measure of the size of the vote that Pat Bergeron/TPoL can potentially turn out.  And even with the vote weighted in their favor, Bergeron et. al., couldn’t deliver a knockout.  In a primary with more visability, and therefore more participation from mainstream Republicans - folks who have known Downer and are more comfortable with him - Downer may well have an advantage.  In other words, I think Downer may be banking on the majority of Republicans who stayed at home this time turning out for him in October.

Just a guess, mind you.  Your mileage may vary.  I’m not a political pundit; I just play one on the Interwebz.

PS - You wanted me to do more insightful musings, Fred; well, there it is.

I want to be fair, so here’s what I found out earlier this morning, regarding my concerns of former State Senator Craig Romero’s (who is more of a “RINO” than Downer would ever be) involvement with Jeff Landry’s campaign and future plans.

Apparently, Romero is not giving any support to Landry camp, and doesn’t appear to be looking for any future influence.  That makes me satisfied.

I’ve been impressed with Jeff when I met him in the past, and no doubt he would represent conservatives in the 3rd District well.

That said, for this “cajun conservatism” blogger, who seems to merely be a mouthpiece for Tea Party of Louisiana without doing his own research, to say a vote for Downer is a vote for Obama is flat out absurd.

If the numbers, as they appear, truly point to the fact that Gen. Downer cannot win this primary, then I hope he does bow out, if for anything, so that we don’t have to see any more of this Downer is Obama’s friend junk.

Jeff Landry scares me.  I don’t think he’s very intelligent and he speaks in platitudes, much like our useless president.  However, they’re conservative platitudes, which explains why the mindless partisans would vote for him.  His experience is being a former legislative assistant to Craig Romero (those of you who say “Chief of Staff” are clearly embellishing his resume… that position for a state senator does not exist).  If that’s the case, expect me to run for Congress next term because I’m equally if not more qualified than him.

I usually don’t take such strong negative positions here, but I was immediately turned off when Landry launched negative ads against Downer.  Was he losing that badly in the polls?  Negative ads are never a good idea in a party primary because they give the opposing party too much ammunition for the general.  And Hunt Downer has served our state with honor.  What has Jeff Landry done?  I guess I just long for the days when military and public service were appreciated by the electorate.

And let’s be honest.  Does anyone really think this district will go to the unknown democrat Sangisetty?  Poor guy was standing on a street corner at the Shrimp and Petroleum Fest this weekend looking like a hooker with no clients.  No staffers/volunteers were with him, and maybe 2 people took his pushcards over a 2 hour period.

So you supported Kerry over Bush? Carter over Reagan?

That aside, with all respect to Downer I think his day in politics is just done. It happens to all of them. After a while, the number of people who owe you starts to dwindle, and younger people come onto the scene.

Downer was kind of on the rise through the 90s, and his political work helped his National Guard career and vice versa. He was even speaker for a while, though he sort of lost a little of his shine at that period.

He hasn’t done anything bad in his career. He’s a decent person. If I had to make a criticism, it’s that Downer sometimes seems a little inauthentic. Do you really think he’s fist-pounding mad at the “arrogance” of Obama? I don’t.

But again, he’s just trying to get elected. It’s a safe bet they all stretch it at times. I wish him well. But if he can’t get any more votes to come out than he did in the primary, the math just isn’t there for him to win this.

much like our useless president.

If you’ve lost Gene Kelly then you’re in big trouble.

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as “bad luck.” - Robert Heinlein
